2010 Hockey Report

December 6, 2010

PACHC fielded one team in the 2010 season at the Metro 3’s level. Most players from the 2009 season returned as well as a few new faces appearing this year.

On the pitch, the first half of the season was very disappointing. We only managed one win in nine games, and were holding the wooden spoon at the halfway mark of the season. However, the second half of the year was much more promising. We managed to compete in most games
which had been lacking earlier in the year, and notched some wins and draws against finals bound opposition teams. Despite the better second half of the season, due to the poor start, unfortunately finals chances were too far out of reach.

The season ended with three wins, three draws, and twelve losses. The team finished 8th on the ladder, eighteen points short of making the top four finals. Thankfully our goal scoring numbers improved from 2009, and we managed to score forty-eight goals for the season, Hamish Eske leading the way with eighteen goals, including three hat-tricks. The two highlight results for the year were the draw against Adelaide Uni who was top and undefeated during the minor rounds, and the five goals to three win against Flinders Uni after being two goals down.

The award winners for this year were: Best and Fairest – Hamish Eske; Best Team Man – Patrick Sadlier; and Best Club Man – Andrew Baillie. I’d like to thank Andrew Baillie for his support in the administration of the Club. I’d also like to thank Simon Burke, Richard Edwards and Joanna Caracoussis for their help and assistance with tasks and events during the year. Thank you to Sam Tyler who umpired for us for the bulk of the season. Thank you also to our sponsor for this year, the Seven Stars Hotel.

Looking to next season, the Club has the talent and will be striving to make a return to finals. We shall once again field one team in the Metro 3’s division. Both new and old players are always welcome to come out for a run. If you are interested in either returning to hockey or continuing hockey after finishing school, please contact Alex Chapman (M: 0418 313 630 and E: chappy14@gmail.com). Next season gets underway in April 2011.
